Sandra Hewitt-Parsons, BA, DKATI, is an expressive arts psychotherapist, artist and international speaker who is establishing an art therapy practice here in the local area. This is the first practice of its kind on the west coast of Newfoundland. Sandra has pioneered art-as-therapy programs in the area since 2004, starting up the first free community art studio on the west coast in 2013.
A private art instructor since 1993, Sandra also completed a B.A. (honours) in psychology from the Grenfell campus of Memorial University in 2011. She then went on to graduate with her masters in art psychotherapy from B.C.’s Kutenai Art Therapy Institute in May, 2015.
As a childhood stroke survivor, Sandra personally knows the healing power of creativity. She has traveled throughout Canada and Europe, giving presentations on recovery through art making. Whether through art therapy or art-as-therapy, Sandra specializes in helping people find their voices when traditional expression has failed them.
